Sell Your Gold Nuggets & Specimens

Sierra Gold Exchange, based in Nevada, regularly purchases natural gold nuggets and specimens. We never deal in man-made or fake nuggets — only genuine, natural material, generally 20k purity or better.

We buy:

  • Natural gold nuggets and specimens (our specialty)
  • Placer gold (flakes and dust) — accepted, though not our primary focus

We do not buy:

  • Man-made or fake nuggets
  • Rock or ore that merely contains trace gold specks

We Pay Better Than the Alternatives

We normally pay better than refiners or jewelers for quality gold. Avoid pawn shops and the national "cash for gold" chains — they offer a fraction of the price and don't specialize in natural nuggets and specimens.

Pricing

Pricing depends on the type of gold and its rarity:

  • Nuggets & Specimens (our specialty): Prices typically start at 80% of contained gold value and go up from there — size, rarity, and variety can push it well beyond spot, up to 120% or more for exceptional or rare pieces.
  • Placer Gold (flakes & dust): Typically priced at 80% to 95% of spot, higher for rare types.

How It Works

  1. Reach out — Email us a description of what you have (weight, and photos if possible). We'll give you a preliminary sense of value and next steps.
  2. Ship it to us securely — We provide shipping guidance and insurance options to help you package and send your nuggets or specimens safely.
  3. We evaluate — Once received, we weigh and assess your gold for purity, rarity, and condition, and calculate an offer based on current market pricing.
  4. Get your offer — We'll email you a transparent breakdown of how we arrived at the number.
  5. Get paid — Accept the offer and receive payment promptly. If you decline, we return your items at no cost to you.

Understanding Purity

  • 18K = .750 fine gold → cost per oz of fine gold × .750
  • 14K = .5833 fine gold → cost per oz of fine gold × .5833

Weight Conversions

We price in grams and troy ounces. Other buyers may quote you in grains or pennyweight (dwt) — here's how to compare apples to apples:

Convert Formula
Oz → dwt multiply by 20
Oz → grams divide by .03215
Grams → oz multiply by .03215
Dwt → oz divide by 20
Dwt → grams divide by .6430
Grams → dwt multiply by .6430

Quick reference:

  • 31.1 grams = 1 troy oz
  • 1 dwt = 1/20th (5%) of a troy oz
  • 1 dwt = 1.55517 grams
  • 1 gram = .03215 troy oz
